Speciality shops open in Southampton as Brighton Lanes concept comes to the city

SOUTHAMPTON is set to have its own version of the Brighton Lanes this month with the launch of Dolphin Lane in the city.

Designer Italian shoe company La Scala and bespoke jeweller Hallmark Southampton are among the first to sign up to this new concept in the city.

Dolphin Lane, in the High Street, is part of the revitalised Dolphin Hotel complex - a lifestyle destination which provides accommodation for the modern fashionista and has become a mecca for art enthusiasts with its permanent gallery Next Step and Sunday Arts Market.

"The opening of Dolphin Lane gives Southampton’s shopping facilities an added dimension and the Brighton Lanes-type ambience perfectly complements the hotel," said Bob Musker from the Dolphin.

"From the moment we announced plans for the Lane we were inundated with enquiries and we are delighted that shoe shop La Scala and Hallmark set to open this month."

The opening of Dolphin Lane is the latest phase in development for the site. The hotel’s 70 bedrooms are being totally transformed, the Oak bar is successfully building up an impressive reputation in the city and plans are now advanced for the opening of Bleu, a grill-style restaurant.

In Dolphin Lane, La Scala is the brainchild of Jane Hampton and will be offering exclusive, designer shoes, handbags and accessories.

"Its the ideal location to bring an exclusive selection of Italian shoes to Southampton," said Jane. "Bob has a great long term vision for the Dolphin and I’m really looking forward to being part of that."

Hallmark Southampton is run by Mark Hussey and will be offering customers design led jewellery. Anything from a diamond engagement ring to leather or titanium necklace can be produced offering customers a truly bespoke service.

Mark already runs a successful outlet in Titchfield and says he had been looking for a suitable second shop and Dolphin Lane perfectly fits the bill.

"The hotel is carving itself a successful and contemporary niche in the market and our selection of European designed jewellery and design service complement the whole ambience," he said.

Once complete Dolphin Lane will boast nine speciality shops together with the coolest hotel in town, top class eating facilities and there are also plans for build 40 apartments.

"The whole Dolphin experience is a long term plan but the success so far illustrates that we are providing what customers want and the opening of the first shops is the next stage of this development," said Mr Musker.
